Our sail training vessel "Spirit of Outward Bound, Hong Kong" is a Challenge 67 cutter-rigged sloop. Under her previous owners, the UK-based Global Challenge, she raced twice around the world into the prevailing winds and seas and through the wild Southern Ocean. She is one of the strongest sailing vessels of her size ever built.
"Spirit" was purchased by Outward Bound Hong Kong in 2004 and is now a familiar sight in the area, where she provides some of the most challenging and unique Outward Bound courses on offer anywhere in the world. Our offshore voyages to Taiwan and the Philippines are a particular highlight of our sailing programme.
"Spirit" takes 12 participants under the supervision and instruction of a team of professional mariners and Outward Bound instructors. The participants form the crew of the ship and must learn to handle sails, steer the boat, navigate, cook and get along with their crewmates - all while the vessel is heeled over and moving through the water.
Life at sea has it's own demands and satisfactions. Everyone should go to sea at least once!
Our island base can be found in the remote north east of Hong Kong, it can only be reached by ferry and this secluded spot means your Outward Bound journey will have a much greater wilderness feel to it.
Located just outside the Sai Kung Country Park with mountains at our back and the shores of Port Shelter immediately to our front our Tai Mong Tsai base provides the perfect launch pad for an Outward Bound journey whether hiking, sea kayaking or sailing.
